| Our proprietary scanning rate-of-change
patternator was developed by spray
research specifically to optimize the measurement of spray flux
density distributions of the large, high-volume sprays produced by
industrial-scale atomizers. The instrument measures the rate-of-change of
liquid collection into a single collector that is moved continuously through
the spray envelope along a pre-programmed path with a known velocity
profile. The scanning patternator allows accurate, rapid and flexible
measurements of spray flux density distributions along any axis or linear
[or curvi-linear] traverse of the spray envelope. The velocity profile of
the traverse is under computer control, dynamically adjusting the local
traverse velocity to maintain the collection rate within user-specified
limits. By these means, the scanning patternator can accommodate
dramatically uneven liquid distributions without loss of resolution.
By adjusting the ratio of effective aperture to collector volume, the
scanning patternator can be used on sprays of widely diverse flow rates
without loss of spatial resolution.
